Announcing the General Availability of SQL Diagnostic Manager 14.0
We’re excited to announce the general availability of SQL Diagnostic Manager 14.0—our biggest step yet in helping DBAs move from performance visibility to performance resolution.
SQL Diagnostic Manager has long been the all-in-one platform to monitor, diagnose, and tune SQL Server performance across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud environments using deep root-cause analytics and an agentless architecture.
With 14.0, SQL DM now goes further by introducing AI-powered query and workload index optimization, built directly into Query Monitor.
What is SQL Diagnostic Manager 14.0?
SQL Diagnostic Manager is a comprehensive SQL Server performance monitoring solution designed for modern DBA teams—providing a single platform to identify issues, diagnose root cause, and act faster with intelligent recommendations.
In 14.0, we’ve expanded that promise with new AI capabilities that help DBAs turn slow or expensive queries into actionable tuning guidance—without leaving the monitoring workflow.
What’s New in SQL Diagnostic Manager 14.0
AI-Powered Query & Workload Index Optimization (New)
SQL DM 14.0 introduces a new way to optimize SQL Server performance by transforming what you already see in Query Monitor into AI-powered index and query recommendations.
Optimize one query… or optimize a workload.
Unlike traditional tuning approaches that focus on one query at a time, SQL DM can analyze real-world execution behavior across multiple competing queries to recommend balanced index designs that work together.
Here’s the workflow (all inside Query Monitor):
- Identify a slow, expensive, or high-impact query in Query Monitor
- Select a single query or a group of related queries
- Submit execution patterns, table structures, and existing index schemas to IDERA AI
- Receive optimized index or query recommendations to evaluate
- Review and approve suggestions before implementation
This capability is designed to make multi-query tuning faster, more repeatable, and far less guesswork-driven—especially when you’re trying to improve read performance without creating unnecessary index sprawl.
DBA-Controlled, Risk-Aware AI (Built for Trust)
We built SQL DM’s AI features to support DBA decision-making without replacing that decision-making.
What that means in practice:
- No automatic changes—nothing is applied without DBA approval
- All outputs are recommendations, not actions
- Recommendations require intentional copy/paste (so nothing happens “accidentally”)
- AI features are disabled by default and must be enabled by an admin
- No table data is sent to IDERA AI; users can review and reject submissions if query text could contain sensitive content
- SQL DM can store and display history of what was submitted, by which user, with a timestamp
Why This Matters for DBAs
Performance tuning is rarely “just one query.” In the real world, DBAs are balancing:
- multiple critical queries that compete for resources
- the risk of index sprawl and write overhead
- the pressure to fix performance fast—without breaking anything
SQL DM 14.0 helps DBAs get to clear next steps faster by putting optimization guidance directly inside the monitoring workflow they already use.
In short: find what’s slow, then get guidance on what to do about it—without leaving Query Monitor.
