Powerful Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics
|
|
|
- Continuous monitoring and analysis: Provides continuous monitoring and real-time analysis of SQL Server and OS health and performance metrics across all SQL Servers enterprise-wide.
- History Browser: Quickly and easily diagnose historical SQL Server performance problems by selecting a historical point-in-time to view historical SQL Server and OS performance metrics, sessions, locks, complete blocking tree, statements being run by each SPID, etc.
- Custom monitoring: ability to add any SQL, Windows or DMV counter for total flexibility in monitoring and alerting.
- Identification of worst-performing code: Identifies performance bottlenecks such as the worst-performing stored procedures, long-running queries, most frequently run queries, SQL Statements and SQL batches.
- Detailed process status and monitoring: Displays current process list, including which process is using the most resources. Monitors selected processes to ensure that no single process consumes more than a pre-defined percentage of hardware resources during a designated period on the SQL Server instances being monitored.
- Fragmentation statistics: Displays fragmentation statistics to help you identify indexes that may need attention.
- Pinpoints blocking processes: Identifies the process at the head of the blocking chain for easy resolution. Provides drilldown to a live trace of any process and permits either the process or the user connection to the server to be terminated.
- Customized alerting and notification: Alert thresholds and notification settings are fully customizable. Alert settings can be varied across servers, and notifications can be directed to different groups based on day of the week, time of day, type of alert, etc.
- Knowledge Base: provides ability to add custom environment-specific details to reduce problem resolution time, increase availability, and increase internal awareness.

Enterprise Management Features
|
|
|
- Enterprise-class scalability: Large numbers of servers can be monitored from a single console, providing an unprecedented level of visibility and control of the SQL Server environment.
- Server categorization: Provides server categorization capabilities to selectively view specific servers and server details. Servers are also grouped by status – critical, warning, or normal to help administrators quickly drill into problem servers.
- Easy-to-understand, customizable views: Server status, performance, and diagnostic metrics are organized into logical, easy-to-understand graphs, tables, and grids. Grid views can be customized to each user’s specific preferences.
- Central Data Repository: Stores all historical performance data in a central repository, enabling analysis of long-term trends, capacity planning and other strategic analysis.
- Powerful reporting: Includes predefined reports highlighting key performance trends, along with an easy to use reporting interface for users to conduct customized historical performance trending and analysis.
- Agent-less, low impact monitoring: Provides simple, secure data collection from a background service. No agents or components of any kind are installed on the monitored SQL Servers, providing comprehensive monitoring with very low overhead.

SQL diagnostic manager is that rare tool that can be used in all phases of database administration and development. It allows me to see real-time performance gain or loss and to quickly dial-in on performance issues. Also, with the historical information SQL diagnostic manager provides, it's much easier to head off problems before they occur.
