PowerCLI is the free PowerShell snapin provided by VMware to manage your vSphere environment. The snapin provides you with a set of Cmdlets (currently more then 260 in the core alone), that allow you to automate almost all aspects of vSphere.

In his second session Luc will show you how you can script the creation and configuration of VMs, avoiding tedious and repetitive work in the vSphere Client. The configuration part will not only cover the virtual hardware of the VM, but also the configuration of the OS running on the VM. After this session, rolling out a 1000 customized VMs should be a piece of cake for you.

2/20/2012Speeding Up PowerShell: Multithreading
In this webcast, MVP Dr. Tobias Weltner illustrates how you can spawn lightweight threads to execute multiple things at the same time. Unlike background jobs, this technique uses fewer resources and allows threads to communicate with each other, which not only enables you to considerably speed up scripts, but also enables you to open multiple GUI windows and keep them open while other PowerShell threads update the window content. Weltner will quickly highlight some of the future parallel processing capabilities built into the upcoming PowerShell version 3.0 which is currently publicly available as CTP (community technology preview).

Thomas Lee, PowerShell MVP, examines how you format output using PowerShell. The 250-level talk first looks at default formatting and using Format-Table and Format-List (and Format-Wide). The talk then looks at .NET Composite formatting strings and PowerShell's -F operator that enable you to format individual values into output strings. We then look at using hash tables with Format-Table and Format-List to provide more control. The talk finishes with a look at additional output mechanisms, including out-gridview.
